Betty Klein
From Viking, Alberta
Scratch Art
Betty is a local artist working in most mediums. Her latest work has included “Scratch Art” which entails using a sharp tool (she uses a darning needle mostly) to etch a design onto a black prepared paper or board.
Workshops given by other artists, and courses through the Department of Extension at the University of Alberta make up her art education.
Being a farm wife, mother and grandmother and living close to nature has provided her with both subject matter and inspiration. Betty has shown her art in the ACACA and various shows in the past. Currently, she has her work in the Viking Station Gallery, the Viking Library, Hospital, and Dental Clinic in Vegreville.
“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.” This quote by Scot Adams is a favorite of Betty’s which she uses often when teaching art classes.
